Renaissance fairs are such a unique place where art, performance, costumes, and history collide. However, Ren Fairs often have an unnecessarily sexually charged atmosphere full of innuendos, bawdy songs, and immodest dress. We want to harness the structure and fun of a renaissance faire but make it a place that is safe, appropriate, and fun for the whole family.
We accomplish this by vetting all our vendors, actors, and acts and having them sign a code of conduct form stating that they agree to uphold the specified family appropriate conduct and will be asked to leave if they are in violation of this. They can appeal to our Code of Conduct committee if they have any questions.
Inexpensive Immersive Fun
Kids grow up so fast and every parent wants to make the most of their kids’ childhood. However, many big immersive experiences are extremely expensive and are too far away or unaffordable for people with big families. We want to bring the same set design, interwoven story line, activity based fun of Disney world or Universal to the midwest as inexpensively as possible.
This is possible by having a large team of volunteers and intentionality. Volunteers give purpose to mini games and activities so that they are intertwined with the theme and overall story so that each quest is memorable and impactful. You don’t need complex expensive rollercosters to have fun. By having a wide range of games (physical challenges, brain teasers, puzzles, team building exercises, art showcases, Improv games) there is something for everyone.
Artist Empowering
The God of the bible is very creative, creating a world of diverse complex beauty. He also directed his people to glorify him with their artistic talents, whether that was when he filled those creating the tabernacle with his holy spirit, or when he asks us to rejoice and worship by raising our voices to him or dancing with joy. We want to empower Christian arts, especially the youth, to use their creative talents to glorify God, celebrate his creation, and bring joy and beauty to their community.
We empower artists by giving them a space to showcase their work at a reasonable cost. The rates are lower for youth and full scholarships are available upon request. Artists can also opt to be showcased on our media page and compete in monthly competitions to win perks and prizes.
Community Building
These days it can be difficult to find activities that allow you to interact with your neighbors. We want to create activities that promote team work and collaboration between your family, and in larger groups and teams. We don’t just have people working toward a common athletic goal, but with improv games and collaborative art projects fun conversations and creating something together is the goal. Games that help you get to know other people.
We help people build community by having Quest Teams. Families can opt to be their own quest team or they can join another family unit. Beginning with ice breakers and appointing tally keepers get conversation going. There are multiple quests that are improv based, or require teams to work together.
Christian Based
A relationship with Jesus impacts every faucet of your life, this includes the sort of events you go to. As Christians we realize that there is a spiritual battle going on around us to determine the landscape of heaven. We want to create events that remind us of this spiritual battle, our calling, and ultimately our hope in Jesus Christ.
The very story of Narnia is symbolic of the story of Jesus Christ. So to help remind our patrons of the spiritual significance we will have a quest that allows church volunteers to explain the biblical symbolism in the Narnia story. We also strive to have an appropriate God honoring event by implementing a code of conduct.
Interactive and Educational
Jesus often used the world around him to tell the story of God’s love for us. And in the classroom, we find that hands-on activities help students remember the material they are learning.
So we strive to help patrons remember the Christian symbolism they are learning by having interactive minigames and activities at the biblical parallel quest. We also allow craftsmen such as blacksmiths, tanners, woodworkers and weavers to have free booths to demonstrate their skills to the patrons. Because God can use everything to teach us something about Him.
